Who’s Playing Sunday Night Football this week?

When the NFL works on putting together the massive schedule each year, particular care is given to the Sunday Night Football time slot. SNF is filled with playoff teams from the prior season and those who look to be on the rise for the coming year.

Later in the year, matchups that suddenly aren’t so intriguing can be swapped out via the flex policy. A more appealing game is moved in its place, while the original contest goes to the Sunday afternoon window.

Here’s what the 2020 Sunday Night Football schedule looks like.

Week 1: Sept. 13

Los Angeles Rams 20 Dallas Cowboys 17

The SNF slate kicked off with an entertaining game between a pair of top NFC teams. The Cowboys looked poised for a potential Super Bowl run to begin the year but were surprised by the Rams, who look good to return to the postseason after missing out last year.

Sunday

Week 2: Sept. 20

Seattle Seahawks 35 New England Patriots 30

CenturyLink Field lit up for this primetime affair between two top squads. Week 2 of the post-Brady era in New England looked promising with Cam Newton throwing for 297 yards but Russell Wilson continued to put his stamp on the 2020 season with 5 TD passes.

Week 3: Sept. 27

Green Bay Packers 37 New Orleans Saints 30

The NFC is shaping up to be super-competitive this season, so this one will have big ramifications down the road. The latest duel between Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees went to Rodgers in a back-and-forth battle. The Packers remain undefeated so far in 2020 while the Saints dropped to 1-2.

Week 4: Oct. 4

Philadelphia Eagles 25 San Francisco 49ers 20

Another pivotal NFC matchup took center stage as the first month of the regular season wrapped. The Eagles surprised the 49ers, looking to make it back to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row, with their first win of the season. Struggling QB Carson Wentz threw a key 4th quarter TD and Alex Singleton returned an INT for a TD to make the difference.

Week 5: Oct. 11

Seattle Seahawks 27 Minnesota Vikings 26

The talented Vikings seemed primed to turn their season around with an early advantage against the Seahawks but Russell Wilson led an inspired comeback capped by a last-second TD throw to escape with the win. An entertaining game was expected and the two squads delivered in spades.

Week 6: Oct. 18

San Francisco 49ers 24 Los Angeles Rams 16

Football Odds Sunday

The NFC West has evolved into one of the toughest divisions in the NFL and took center stage with this primetime tilt from the West Coast. The meeting of the last two NFC teams to reach the Super Bowl surprised as Jimmy Garopp0lo got the Niners off to a 21-6 halftime lead and the 49ers bounced back to .500 with a solid win over Jared Goff and the Rams.

Week 7: Oct. 25

Arizona Cardinals 37 Seattle Seahawks 34

The previously undefeated Seahawks rolled into Arizona high on confidence and with a well-earned reputation for pulling out strange games in the 4th quarter but Kyler Murray and the Cards turned the tables. MVP favorite Russell Wilson threw three picks and Murray rallied the Cards in the 4th and OT with three scoring drives.

Week 8: Nov. 1

Philadelphia Eagles 23 Dallas Cowboys 9

However uninspiring both teams have been this year, the NFC East will likely come down to these two clubs. So even with their poor records and Dak Prescott‘s injury, this matchup between Cowboys and Eagles had lots at stake. In the end the Eagles and Carson Wentz did just enough in the second half to secure the big win and move 1.5 games ahead of Dallas in the NFC East.

Week 9: Nov. 8

New Orleans Saints 38 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3

Hoo boy. Brady and Brees don’t cross paths too often, so this one had the potential to be special. It was a blowout by halftime (31-0!) and ended up as the worst loss (points-wise) of Tom Brady’s career. Eep. Drew Brees and the Saints made it clear they’re still the big dog in the NFC South with 5 straight wins against the Bucs.

Week 10: Nov. 15

New England Patriots 23 Baltimore Ravens 17

Surprise, surprise. The 6-2 Ravens came in the decided favorite versus the middling Pats but the defence locked down Lamar Jackson and Cam Newton delivered a couple of timely scores to pull out the victory. At 4-5 the Pats are suddenly back in the AFC playoff race.

Week 11: Nov. 22

Football Odds Sunday

Kansas City Chiefs 35 Las Vegas Raiders 31

The defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs got their revenge on the AFC West rival Raiders, who earlier in the season handed the Chiefs their only loss so far. Patrick Mahomes delivered again under the primetime lights, hitting Travis Kelce with a TD pass with under 30 seconds left to clinch the win.

Week 12: Nov. 29

Green Bay Packers 41 Chicago Bears 25

College football odds

On the Sunday Night after Thanksgiving, the NFL’s most historic rivalry took center stage and … it wasn’t close. The Bears and Packers have hooked up for many memorable affairs through the years but this wasn’t one of them. QB Mitch Trubisky returned for his first action since Week 3 and turned the ball over three times. Aaron Rodgers and the Pack are now 8-3 and headed to the playoffs; the Bears have lost five straight since a 5-1 start.

Week 13: Dec. 6

Kansas City Chiefs 22 Denver Broncos 16

The Chiefs are well on their way to another AFC West crown, but the Broncos held their own in a matchup that ended up much closer than expected. After losing to the Chiefs by 27 in Week 7 the Broncos redeemed themselves somewhat with a better effort but still couldn’t overcome the combined power of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce once again.

Week 14: Dec. 13

Buffalo Bills 25 Pittsburgh Steelers 16

The AFC Playoff race has been intriguing this season with these two teams right in the thick of it. The Steelers stormed out to a perfect 11-0 start only to hit the skids the past two weeks, including against the Bills on Sunday night. The Bills have shown that they’ve officially arrived as contenders all season and did so convincingly again against the Steelers.

Week 15: Dec. 20

Dallas Cowboys 41 San Francisco 49ers 33

Ncaa Football Odds And Spreads

These long-time rivals have many NFC crowns between them, and both hoped to add to the resume in 2020 before stumbling. The 49ers and Cowboys still locked horns at Jerry World for what was a heated test for both sides with the Cowboys prevailing.

Week 16: Dec. 27

Green Bay Packers 40 Tennessee Titans 17

An interesting inter-conference affair got the spotlight as a lengthy holiday weekend wrapped up but the game wasn’t much of a contest. The Titans and Packers both reached the title game in their respective conferences last season but it looks like the Packers are the only team with a chance to repeat the feat in 2020.

Week 17: Jan. 3

Washington Football Team 20 Philadelphia Eagles 14

The NFL always makes sure that the last game of the season has some kind of bearing on the playoff picture, so it was the deciding game of the NFC East that aired to end the 2020 regular season. In a down year for the NFC East the Washington Football Team needed a win to clinch the division and they got it over the struggling Eagles.

Sunday Night Football Betting Trends & Tips

Historically, home favorites have been the safer bet in NFL primetime games, but this can vary on a season-to-season basis. This is especially true when we’re talking about moneyline versus point spread, so there’s unfortunately no hard and fast rule to lean on.

However, that doesn’t mean we’re completely out of luck when hunting for an edge. Here’s a handful of factors that could impact the proceedings.

  • Home/Road Splits: Teams that crush it at home should do the same when the lights are the brightest, while it’s unlikely that those that don’t travel well will turn it around all of a sudden.
  • Travel: Speaking of travel, know what’s what for both sides. Has either side been logging a lot of air miles lately? Teams wrapping up a lengthy road trip with a late game may have their eyes on the exits.
  • Primetime Performance: Some players and teams love the spotlight and don’t let it impact performance, while others can be thrown off kilter by games that deviate from the norm. Spend some time reviewing team performance in night games.

Sunday Night Football All-Time Records

Since 2006, SNF has made its home on NBC. A featured attraction of the NFL week, we have seen dozens of great games and impressive individual performances underneath the bright primetime lights. Here are some notable facts and figures to consider.

  • Team with most appearances: Dallas Cowboys, 45
  • Team with fewest appearances: Jacksonville Jaguars, 1
  • Highest scoring game: 83 points – twice: Eagles at Giants in 2009 and Chiefs at Patriots in 2018.
  • Lowest scoring game: 12 points – Seahawks at Cardinals in 2016
  • Inter-conference matchups: AFC leads NFC 18-14

How to Watch Sunday Night Football

NBC is the exclusive broadcast home for NFL Sunday Night Football. The primetime game has been in the network family since 2006 when NBC took over its coverage from ESPN.

SNF is generally viewed as the marquee game of the NFL week, and league schedule makers do their best to ensure that’s the case. Upon the initial release of the schedule, the Sunday Night Football slot is filled with appealing matchups.

As the season moves along, games that looked great in advance of the season may suddenly not be so appealing. However, there’s an escape hatch for NBC in the form of flex scheduling.

This means that a game can be bumped up from the afternoon slate while the originally scheduled contest swaps places. It’s done to make sure that there’s a compelling game in the premiere broadcast window for the league.

The flex policy becomes all the more important when Week 17 rolls around. SNF serves as the final game of the regular season, so the NFL does its best to make sure the game has playoff implications.

How to Stream Sunday Night Football Live

NBC is one of the big four broadcast networks. As a result, it’s a staple of various cable, satellite, and cord cutting packages. The network has a vast reach and affiliates in multiple states, so the feed can be picked up with an HD antenna in multiple areas as well.

Streaming coverage is provided by the network for both online and mobile consumers. The former can visit NBCSports.com, while the NBC Sports App is where you can find coverage of the game on the go. The Yahoo Sports app also has a feed for NFL primetime games.

Who are the Sunday Night Football announcers?

Since the 2009 season, it has been the same voices calling the action on Sunday Night Football. Al Michaels handles the play-by-play duties, a role he has filled since NBC took over coverage of SNF in 2006.

Cris Collinsworth provides the color analysis. He has been locked into the spot since 2009 when he replaced the legendary John Madden, who retired after filling the analyst role from 2006-09. Michelle Tafoya handles sideline reporting duties for SNF.

Nfl Picks Against The Spread

The longest rivalry in NFL history resumes on Sunday Night Football when the Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears in a key NFC North matchup at Lambeau Field. The Packers (7-3) and Bears (5-5) have played 200 times, and Green Bay leads the series 99-95-6. The Packers have won 17 of the past 20 meetings and the last four matchups in Green Bay. Green Bay enters Sunday night's showdown having won nine of its last 10 games at home, while Chicago limps into tonight's contest having lost four straight.

Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET. Green Bay is an eight-point favorite in the latest Packers vs. Bears odds from William Hill Sportsbook, while the over-under for total points scored is 44.5. Before you make any Bears vs. Packers picks, you need to see what NFL and Green Bay expert R.J. White has to say.

CBS Sports' fantasy and gambling editor, White enters Week 12 on a sizzling 31-23-3 run. It's no surprise, as White twice has cashed huge in the world's most prestigious football handicapping competition, the Las Vegas SuperContest.

In addition, White has gone an incredible 40-9 on his last 49 against-the-spread picks involving Green Bay. Anyone who has followed him is way up.

Now, he has locked in on Packers vs. Bears and released another confident against-the-spread pick that is available only at SportsLine. Go here to see it. Here are the NFL odds and trends for Bears vs. Packers:

  • Packers vs. Bears spread: Green Bay -8
  • Packers vs. Bears Over/Under: 44.5 points
  • Packers vs. Bears money line: Green Bay -380, Chicago +310
  • GB: QB Aaron Rodgers leads the NFL in passer rating (115.8)
  • CHI: WR Allen Robinson has 14 receptions of 20 or more yards this season

Why the Packers can cover

Green Bay has one of the best offenses in the NFL. The Packers rank third in points per game (30.8) and yards per pass (8.21). They also rank fourth in third down conversion percentage (47.9) and red zone touchdown rate (73.7).

In addition, Green Bay's defense faces a Chicago rushing attack that arguably is the worst in the league. The Bears are last in the NFL in rushing touchdowns (two) and next to last in yards per rush (3.6). The Bears also have only one rushing touchdown from a running back this season. For comparison, five receivers/tight ends in the NFL have more rushing touchdowns this season than Bears running backs.

Why the Bears can cover

Chicago has the defense to keep Green Bay in check. The Bears allow just 20.9 points per game, which ranks sixth in the NFL. They also give up just 340.1 total yards per game, which also is sixth in the league.

In addition, Chicago faces a Packers team that has struggled on special teams this season. Green Bay punter J.K. Scott is averaging just 35.7 net yards per punt; just four punters have been worse. In last week's loss, returner Darrius Shepherd fumbled on a kickoff return. In the four previous games, the Packers had a punt blocked, botched an onside-kick recovery and gave up a 91-yard punt return for a touchdown.

How to make Packers vs. Bears picks

White has analyzed this matchup and while he's leaning Under the total, he has also discovered a crucial x-factor that makes one side of the spread a must-back. He's only sharing it here.
